Storm season is approaching and that means the potential for hail and damage to your roof. Sometimes hail damage to your roof is obvious, but if you’re unsure whether your roof took a hit here are four ways to know if your roof has hail damage.
How to Know You May Have Hail Damage to Your Roof
1 – Multiple roofs in your area are being replaced.
Noticed roofing and contractor trucks in your area? If your neighbors are having repairs done there’s a good chance your roof was affected too.
2 – Granule loss in your flower beds or grass.
Asphalt shingles are covered with small mineral granules, when hit by hail they can loosen and cause some to drop off. You may notice these granules in your flower beds, grass or gutters.
3 – Leaking areas in your roof.
During or after rain you notice water leaking in your house.
4 – Dents in roof vents, air conditioner units or other outdoor structures.
Metal vents and air conditioner casings can sometimes make it easier to spot dents from hail. You may notice indentions on any exposed siding, gutters or other metal surfaces before you see damage asphalt shingles because of their flat surface and smooth texture.
